Well we left Portland on the 21st. The drive is 16 hours long, only 3 more than our usual to CT. We actually got on the road by 8:15! It's usually noon or so. It was a good driving day and we went about 11 hours. We stopped in Los Banos. I am told it's pronounced bannos, but I say banos with the tilda over the n. We stayed at a gross Red roof inn, with OUT bed bugs, but with loud, young, neighbors.
I have waited too long to write this all out and forget details.
We were on the road early ish and got to San Diego around 3. Met up with Marc at the condo in La Jolla and were at Stephanie's boyfriend's shack for martinis and sun set for 4:45. Lisa and Marc joined us all there and we walked to Su Casa for dinner after. Lydia was and continues to be, so well behaved and such a great sport with all the grown up company. Though the girls do have a wonderful child like sweetness that is very relatable.
The first official day here, we three drove downtown and walked around and eventually met up at Lisa's to drive to the beautiful new library downtown, where she had purchased a brick with their father's name. It has not been laid yet. The library is still settling in. It really is stunning inside and out, and the view is amazing.
Monday was spent walking around the Cove with brother Marc, coffee in hand and inevitably ice cream too, as always happens with this crowd. We went down to see the Sea Lions, and had a nice time chatting and catching up with Marc.
We all met up with Lisa and Bruce for dinner after at Hennessey's.
The next day was Xmas Eve. We, Stephanie, and Marc met at Lisa and Bruce's for an Italian take out dinner and great visiting.
Xmas morning was the first one we have ever spent with just us three! Ed and I watched Lydia open her loot and she was thrilled with everything, and appreciative. It was nice. Though we really missed Grammy and Papa! As we truly missed all of our east coast family, and have through this break.
We packed up and drove to Lisa's for breakfast. There cousin Bill had come down on the train late Xmas eve ning. We had delicious potatos and eggs that Bruce made, pastry and coffee. After a long linger there we caravaned with Lisa Bill and Marc up to L.A. to see the Morrells.
